Given that most of his peers (Street Sense, Hard Spun, Any Given Saturday, etc.) aren't racing at all, I think we should be glad that we'll get to see the 2007 Horse of the Year race as a four-year-old.

When you consider the money they could be getting for putting him out to stud, it's hard to blame the owners for going after the big money in Dubai. Hopefully the trip won't knock him out of action for too long and we'll get to see him run in lots of big races this year. I'm thinking Stephen Foster, Whitney, Woodward, Jockey Club Gold Cup, and Breeders' Cup Classic.

I have heard a lot of people who feel that Curlin should have been kept here to race in the U.S.A. to kick off 2008 instead of over seas hoping to bring back 'Horse of the World' honors. What do you all think here and why...

The owners of Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Sweet Catomine have announced that the 3-year-old champion filly will go in the Kentucky Derby instead of the Oaks where she had been expected to run. She will be venturing down the "road less traveled", as only 38 fillies have Run for the Roses in its 130 runnings so far. There have not been any fillies in the Derby since 1999, when Excellent Meeting finished 5th and Three Ring finished last. The last female Derby winner was Winning Colors in 1988, with Genuine Risk in 1980 and Regret in 1915 the only others. Lady Navarre was second in 1906 and five others finished third, giving us a total of just nine in-the-money finishers out of 38 starters.

Are you playing the Ellis Park pick-4? With a 4% takeout, it's the best deal in racing. Thoroughbred Report supports this move by Ellis Park and urges you to support them with your wagering dollars.

When this wager had a 22% takeout, the Ellis Park pick-4 pool averaged around $18,000. For a 4% takeout to make financial sense, the average pick-4 pool will have to exceed $100,000. As of 7/19/07, the average Ellis Park pick-4 pool has been less than $33,000 (with a peak of $65,000). As you can see, they are not even close yet.

If you've ever complained about the high takeouts at the track, now is the time to put your money where your mouth is. The fields are deep and the payoffs have been excellent. What are you waiting for?

What do you think? Are you playing the Ellis Park pick-4? If not, why not?

Horseplayers, speak now or forever hold your peace!
